"Trevor was my first Yoga teacher and opened my eyes to something that has truly changed my life. I have tried a variety of teachers, all with their merits, but find myself going back to his classes thanks to his focus on safety, alignment and form not to mention the lightness and fun that he brings into class."

Quick Yoga for Busy Holidays

12/13/11

This time of year tends to get very busy and stressful. People get busy with holiday parties, holiday shopping, family gatherings, and more. Many of these involve travel, time off work, and time away from the Yoga mat, and I won't even mention the unhealthy foods. I really want to encourage you when you do travel, or end up unable to get to class, to keep a bit of your practice with you. Find the time in this season of giving to give a little Yoga to yourself.
Here are a couple quick and easy exercises you can do to help you de-stress and navigate the holiday season.

1.  If you only have a couple minutes, just sit, or lay down in a quiet or peaceful place. Put on some calming music or just enjoy the silence. Make yourself comfortable and take a few minutes just to breathe. Slow deep inhales, and long extended exhales. Listen to the breath and let all other thoughts and actions fade away. Even if it is only a few minutes, this can make a huge impact on your day.

2. If you have a little bit longer but still a short time, just take some sun salutations. Our simple A-series sun salutation, or even just a half salutation can be so beneficial to calm the mind and release some tensions from the body.
Here is a breakdown of the A-Series Sun Salutation

3. If you have more time, but not enough for a full class, just follow your intuition. Do the breathing as laid out here, and the sun salutations, and feel if you have any areas of tension that want some extra attention, and follow those signals into a few other stretches. Just listen to your inner guide, without worrying if it even is an official Yoga pose.

Remember Yoga is in the intention of the practice, so even these simple exercises can make a huge impact when done with a positive intention.
