This month I am featuring my Wednesday night Flow & Renew class at The Jade Apple. This class is a wonderful way to wind down and de-stress mid week. We start with about 50 minutes of vinyasa flow sequences to warm and strengthen the body. Then we finish with 40 minutes of gentle supported restorative postures. It is a great way to end the day an relax before bed! Come see what it is all about.

Flow and Renew is every Wednesday night, 8-9:30pm at The Jade Apple.

Dealing with any life threatening illness such as cancer can be an exercise in acceptance. Not just for the person with the illness, but for those in their inner circle as well. As Desikachar once said "accept what is, and know that things change." This is great advice for anybody in a multitude of situations, but it is particularly important within the theme of this month's studies at Loyola Marymount University's Yoga Therapy RX program. We studied cancer, its many types, treatments, etc, and how as a Yoga Therapist we can help aid in someone's healing. Healing is something that comes from inside the individual, and whatever we are healing, the ability to accept things as they are is a challenging but important tool. Acceptance is a working process. Through a multitude of amazing stories, Jnani Chapman took us through the weekend on cancer studies. One of her stories about acceptance was on an issue in her own life. Her teacher asked her to accept what was, and she couldn't. So he retorted "can you accept that you can't accept?" Again the answer was "no." Finally her teacher broke her down and she was able to accept that she couldn't accept that she couldn't accept that she couldn't accept that she couldn't accept that she couldn't accept. As with all of us, through illness or not, the process of acceptance has to start somewhere along that chain. Through the process of working toward acceptance we can make a shift, and healing from within can start. Will this process cure cancer? No. Have I heard tons of inspiring stories through my training and my life of miraculous and/or spontaneous healing from cancer? Yes. Many of those healing miracles started with acceptance, and were maintained on hope. If only we all can learn the ability to "accept what is, and know that things change."
Next month, we turn to the endocrine system . . . .
