Autumn is my favorite time of the year. The weather starts to mellow from the heat of summer. Life gets back on track and slows down. It is like the world slows down and begins to breathe. Slower, deeper, lengthened breaths that calm and quiet the fiery energy of summer. We too can take part in the calming of the fall. Tap into your breath, take time to look inward. As the leaves on the trees change colors, so do our own energies. The Yoga practice is the perfect place to slow down and connect with yourself on a deeper level. As we transition into fall, take that time to breathe and observe yourself and the shifting energies around you.

I recently taught a really fun class at the Lululemon Athletica store at the Americana on Brand in Glendale. It is always fun to get out into the community and teach in different spaces. Thank you to everyone involved.

My new Gentle Flow and Therapeutic Yoga class is up and running. It will be canceled for Tuesday October 11th, but will be back in force on October 18th.

The class combines gentle flowing sequences, breath work, long held restorative poses, and visualization work to help you de-stress and help your body tap in to its natural healing abilities. This class is for anyone, new to Yoga, or an advanced practitioner, injured or fully healthy.

It's almost hard to believe that after 2 years studying Yoga Therapy at LMU, that part of my journey is finished. I've spent a lot of time the last few years working to learn and grow as a teacher. Now is the time to plant the seeds of knowledge I have acquired and see what grows. I find my mind racing with a plethora of ideas of where I can go next. The question now becomes, where do I want this all to take me? The answer is not so easy or simple to find. I do know that I need to take all that I've learned and let it marinate, and see what comes of it naturally. I love teaching and practicing the vinyasa flow style that I have loved for many many years, but I also love to help people on a deeper level, whether it be with alignment, injury, philosophy, history, or any of the other many interesting facets of the Yoga practice. It seems that the more I learned at LMU the more I came to realize how much I do not know. The possibilities and options are almost endless.

So where do I go from here? One of the reasons I started my studies of Yoga Therapy was so I can move from just teaching flow classes and into a softer more therapeutic setting. In such a setting I can keep making my living with less strain on my own body. Branching outside of my comfort zone of teaching a lot of flow classes per week is going to be tough, but my body is making it clear that a shift is needed. As we grow, so does our Yoga, so does our practice, so does our teaching. My vision of my future is now a fuzzy blur. I do know that there will be more one-on-one Yoga and Yoga Therapy sessions. I do know that I want to teach workshops and take people on Yoga retreats, and who knows, maybe someday run a Yoga teacher training course. I also know that as I move forward I will need to cut back on the regular weekly vinyasa classes. This will only make me stronger, but it will make the classes that I do teach that much better.

This is a really big subject that I'm finding this format too short to handle. So as the LMU blog comes to a close today, I've started a blog for my own musings as a Yogi and as a teacher. Find it HERE.
